There are so many wonderful memories of my childhood that include animals. I remember being a small child of four or five and going with my father and brother Geoff to a breeder of German Shepherds whom my father found. There were many beautiful puppies scampering about and I of course wanted to bring each one home and pointed to this one, then that one. My father said no not that one. I said I love this one. He and my brother conferred on the one they wanted and home came our German Shepherd male puppy Shep who became our loyal family guard dog. The years we spent having fun with him as one of the family are fondly remembered. We included him in everything; sleigh riding, on the toboggan and at Best Lake in Watchung, New Jersey for ice skating where he barked as we twirled. He once grabbed my arm to pull me to see something. I will never forget that sense of trust and love in our German Shepherd.
